Are you planning your new home? Do you want to live green? Are you on a budget? There is a DIY publication called "Home Power" that is both lay and technical. The writers write in understandable language for those who are not architects, electrical or solar or wind engineers, or general contractors. Each article is concisely written with a lot of information. The writers get technical when they are describing the technology and listing the components of each technology that they are describing. There are usually excellent diagrams to better connect the lay description to the technical discussion.
This month's magazine has a very informative article on storage batteries, entitle "Batter Chemistry" by Justine Sanchez. She includes battery cross-sections depicting the chemical reaction between the positive and negative terminals. There is some pro and con discussion regarding each chemistry type. The article is informative enough to encourage further research in a more methodical fashion.
Take a read.
